History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi Summary:
Synopsis:
History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi (shortened to Kenichi) is an anime series based on the manga by Syun Matsuena. The series features martial arts, comedy and romance. Episode Length: 50
Summary:
Kenichi is the main protagonist of the series. In the beginning, he is the weakest student at his school. He wants to become stronger in order to protect others and those who are weak, yet because of his own weakness, he is unable to do so. This would all change when he meets Miu and sees her take on a group of thugs all by herself. Eventually he finds out that Miu is living in a Dojo full of martial arts masters. At first Kenichi is scared of the 5 martial arts masters and is unwilling to take part in the training, but once he made up his mind, he in turn agrees to take up the grueling training to become the strongest. As Kenichi becomes stronger, he faces many opponents, mainly from a group called Ragnarok. He befriends many former members of Ragnarok and only after he has bested them in battle and has shown them the error of their ways. Of course not everyone becomes his friend and he learns that there are some battles he must win no matter what the result may be.
Review:
Kenichi is an martial arts anime and it shows as most of the show is dedicated to Kenichi’s training and the fights that he is engaged in. There are a lot of fights in the anime and it is one of the best features as the fights themselves are interesting and many of the fights are not there for show but rather important in moving the show forward. The comedy comes in the form of Kenichi’s training from his 5 martial arts masters who relentlessly train him and show absolutely no mercy to him. Kenichi’s personality is another form of comedy as he is not a confident individual and his witty remarks are very funny to watch. Miu serves as both fanservice and comedy, especially with her large busty figure and her love for cats. In addition, each character is developed quite nicely as most of the support characters have a story of their own and why they chose to fight. Even though the series has many fights, none of them are redundant and all the fights are executed well. If there is one flaw with the series is that some of the martial arts masters at Ryozanpaku do not have their stories revealed.
Kenichi is one of my favorite martial arts anime and there is good reason to it: the plot is easy to follow, the action is tight and intense, the comedy works in every way and it does not drag on but goes right to the point. One of the best animes to be released in 2007 and it should not be missed by anyone.
